The 3CX Phone System is the software-based private branch exchange (PBX) Phone system developed and marketed by the company, 3CX. The 3CX Phone System is based on the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) standard and enables extensions to make calls via the public switched telephone network (PSTN) or via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services on premises, in the cloud, or via a cloud service owned and operated by the 3CX company. The 3CX Phone System is available for Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi[1] and supports standard SIP soft/hard phones, VoIP services, faxing, voice and web meetings, as well as traditional PSTN phone lines.

3CX Phone System consists of a number of software-based[9] components. The PBX, accessed and managed via a web-based management console, softphone for Windows, and smartphone clients for iOS and Android. The phone system can be used with either SIP phones or the clients, or a combination of the two. The PBX provides unified communications functionality including presence, chat, voicemail to email, fax to email, integrated video conferencing, call conferencing, Live Chat, SMS, and additional integrations with Facebook and a number of CRM platforms.

The upgrade went relatively smoothly. The only tricky part was to customize the 3cx autoprovisioning file for our yealink phones. Lucky we inserted a '#custom' in front of every custom settings we introduced, so finding these was easy.

3. After applying update 37098.738 (SP 6.1) 3CXPhone came up with an error "cannot connec to 3CX server". I read somewhere that excluding the folder 'c:\programdata\3cxphone for windows' in our anti-virus would fix it. Has anyone experienced that?

The welcome email is the best sure fire way to get it working properly. Technically the 3CX Phone provisioning files are under the phone directory (c:\programdata\3cx\data\http\interface\provisioning\(private folder name)\TcxProvFiles) however there is not way to automatically distribute them like I assume you are trying to do! If you think PDFDeploy can do it give it a try and see what happens.

When creating a call using the HTTP method, we have to send the user extension and PIN number; so, we will need to create a database that ties these together for our users. I believe this type of situation is typically used for writing static links for users, but we can set this up to make links dynamic. We piggybacked off an internal database that contained all users already, and simply added an additional column to the table for their phone extension and 3CX PIN:

We set up our Click to Call system on two different platforms. One within a custom internal portal for sales and order maintenance and the other within the Netsuite ERP. The example we will cover is within the custom portal, written in PHP. There was a lot of customization that needed to go into getting this to work in Netsuite and that is beyond the scope of this blog.

Once done properly, the user clicks the phone, a popup shows up that tells the user the call is being placed. Their extension rings and they pick up the phone. They will hear hold music until the called party answers, then they are connected.

We are providing you with the information below to enable you to research and evaluate telephony products that are available from the leading brands. To get an idea of how the systems scale, their capacity is indicated by maximum number of extensions (Users).
